Guided tour of Cervia
Guided tour through the streets of Cervia with a special focus on the architecture of the salt storage area and the San Michele tower.
Overlooking the canal port, the 'Magazzini del Sale' (Salt Warehouses) represent one of the best examples of industrial archaeology in the Cervia area.
The Magazzino Torre, adjacent to the Torre San Michele, was built in 1691 at the behest of the Treasurer of Romagna, Michelangelo Maffei, to ensure the storage of salt produced in the salt pans.
In 1712, the Magazzino Darsena was built on the opposite side of the canal, destined for the storage of salt that had undergone initial cleaning and drying in the Magazzino Torre, and subsequent weighing and portioning into sacks for sale.
We then return to the city centre, visiting the quadrilateral town centre and the idea of a factory town structured according to precise indications of Pope Innocenzo XII.
From the houses of the salinari (salt workers) to Piazza Pisacane where an ancient measurement stone stands out, and the central Piazza Garibaldi with its cathedral dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption.
We end with Via XX Settembre where the municipal theatre is prominent and the house of Trucolo, the little man with the drop of tin praised by Grazia Deledda, before heading back to the hotel with our staff!
